A Priest, a Rabbi, and a Minister Walk into a Bar…
Christianity is no laughing matter. But there is more to the Bible than sin, atonement, sacraments and floods.
Among his immeasurable gifts, God gives us humor. All of us have a sense of humor – we love to laugh, tell jokes, listen to comedy. So where does it come from? From God! Think about it: we are created in his image!
Maybe that is why laughing is good (when and where appropriate, of course). If you doubt this, look it up.
Research shows that laughter is good for a person’s health. It can reduce stress hormones, increase amount of “good” cholesterol in your body, and decrease inflammation of the arteries. And a good laugh can do wonders for our mental health by releasing stress and reducing anxiety.
There are so many Bible verses that relate to humor and laughter. Here are some of our favorites. Which speaks to you the most?
A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. – Proverbs 17:22

Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. – Job 8:21

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all [ye that are] upright in heart. – Psalms 32:11
Rejoice in the Lord always: [and] again I say, Rejoice. – Philippians 4:4 Take a moment and write down the verse that you enjoyed the most, and carry it with you. As you go about your day, think about what it means. Let it be a reminder that God’s plan is in everything we see, we hear, and we do. And don’t be afraid to laugh. God has a sense of humor.
